The Great Divide

With the world as it is today, there is so much hate, so much hurt, and so much heartache. So what can we do about it? What is our role? I spoke to my parents a while back about how crazy people are going about all of the politics, and it seems it is only getting worse. What I was brought back to was Daniel 3. To set the scene, in the book of Daniel, we have King Nebuchadnezzar and he is feeling really good about himself. He makes a proclamation that anyone who doesn't bow to him must burn in a fiery furnace. So he calls all the people together, rolls out this statue of himself, and tells them to bow. There were 3 very bold men in the group who chose not to bow. They chose to be faithful to the one true God! And in the end, the king threw them in a fiery furnace. God sent an angel to save them, and the king changed his heart. But let's look at that for a moment. They didn't yell, make a scene, hold up posters, shout it from the rooftops. Their faith was gentle, quiet, and obedient. Sometimes we feel like we have to make a loud, bold, in-your-face statement about our faith. And instead, sometimes that causes a greater divide. While there are times for us to stand in boldness, there are also times where our faith can be SEEN and we don't have to MAKE a SCENE. There are times as women that God calls us to humility, and obedience through action, not noise. We can make just as much of a wave by getting up and going to church despite our husband who refuses to go with us, or by continuing to love the son who makes it known how much he despises us, or by finding ways to serve the co-worker who has tried to get us fired, and by praying for our country instead of posting about our country. So what is something you have going on in your life that you need to quietly walk in obedience with, instead of causing a scene and a greater divide?
